Team News
1/6/10 Happy New Year, Hope everyone has a great year! Work is progressing on the car. For now we are concentrating on the mechanical end of things and working on securing a spare parts inventory for the upcoming season. So far we've made updates to the front sway bar mounts to help keep adjustment more consistent. Replaced and moved brake lines for better protection from damage. Prepared the engine bay for the freshened motor and straightened the left front frame damage that was hastily repaired last season. Rear differential will be next major item on the list for overhaul.

11/26/09 Happy Thanksgiving. We have moved most of the 2009 Team News to the archive page. The 6 car is being freshened up for the 2010 season. Motor has been sent to Don at R.A.D. Auto Machine for a much needed overhaul. Stafford Speedway has posted the 2010 schedule with 24 events for the Whelen All American Series. Complete schedule can be found on the Where and When page.

10/5/09 Unbelievable. At the start of the season we had no expectations besides trying to become a competitive team. By far we have surpassed our goal by racing to our first win at this weekends Fall Final. With the rain Saturday it was one warm-up and straight to the feature. Starting inside in the second row we were able to secure our win by keeping the field in check with the exception of DARE Stock Champion Don Wood in the 51. With Don already having two wins in 2009 Andrew got by off turn 4 on the last lap to take the win. With our first victory also came the opportunity to run in the Paradiso-Muska 8 lap shoot-out. Starting on the pole Andrew brought a very loose race car home for a fourth place finish to end what I would call a very successful first season. Great job by Crew Chief Alex Hayes along with Driver Andrew Hayes and the entire Hayes Racing Group Team.
On a more serious note, we are glad to report Stephanie Berardi driver of the 92 DARE car is ok although really sore. Stephanie took a hard hit during the shoot-out in the right side door and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance.
Her dad John says the car is junk but would like to let everyone know that using a quality seat, harness and HANS device prevented any serious injury.
Visit the website often, we'll have a post season review and updates throughout the off season.

The 15-lap DARE Stock feature event took the green flag with Duane Provost taking the early lead. Provost had Kyle Nosal, Albert Saunders, Andrew Hayes, and Cliff Saunders behind him. The top-5 settled into line and was running single file until a spin by Kyle Casagrande brought out the yellow flag with 4 laps complete.

On the restart, Jim Brice hit the wall in turn 1 and Provost spun in turn 2 to bring the yellow flag back out. This put Albert Saunders and Hayes on the front row for the restart.

Hayes got a good run on the restart, and he was able to move past Saunders to take over the lead on lap-7. Don Wood was on the charge and he quickly moved from fifth to second behind Hayes. Tony Membrino, Jr. was third, with Stephanie Berardi fourth and Saunders fell from the lead back to fifth.

A caution for a spin by Lori-Jo Rzeszutek with 11 laps complete slowed the action and set up a 4-lap dash to the finish. Wood took the lead on the restart with Hayes settling into second. Wood looked to be heading to victory lane, but after reeling Wood in, Hayes made a move in turn 4 coming to the checkered flag to take down his first career DARE Stock victory. Wood finished second, with Membrino, Albert Saunders, and Todd LaPorta rounding out the top-5.

The 8-lap Paradiso-Muska DARE Stock Shoot-Out took the green flag with Victoria Bergenty taking the lead from the pole. Stephanie Berardi spun and collected the car of Kyle Casagrande on the second lap to bring the yellow out.

Bergenty powered into the lead on the restart with Tony Membrino, Jr. moving into second. Robert Thompson moved into third, with Andrew Hayes fourth and Albert Saunders fifth.

Bergenty and Membrino pulled away from the field to make it a two car battle for the lead and the race win. Bergenty was too strong to be overtaken and she took down the victory. Membrino finished second, with Thompson, Hayes, and Albert Saunders rounding out the top-5.

10/1/09 According to Stafford's penalties issued this week the 97 DARE car was found to have an illegal restricter (AVM) plate. Penalty results in our #6 being credited with our second top three finish and we now have moved into 15th in points. Also having a 56 point lead going into the Fall Final this weekend, congratulations to Don Wood and Berardi Racing on securing the 2009 DARE Stock championship with the #51 car. See you this weekend to wrap up the 2009 season.

9/27/09 Two in a row. Friday night warm-ups confirmed car was slightly loose. Made a slight adjustment for second warm-up and it still needed a little more so we tightened it up a bit more before the heat. Started our heat race this week outside second row. Ended up with a seventh place finish, not what we wanted but car was good and it was just the way the race played out. Pole position for the feature for the second week in a row. On the start Duane Provost in the 88 moved ahead with a great start on the outside and took the lead. A few laps later the 74 of Victoria Bergenty was able to get by us and put us back to third. The 6 was solidly in third when the caution flew. After the restart the 51 and 97 made a run for the front to take the top two spots. We were able to get by the 88 for fourth and finished there for our second top five in two weeks.
But the story may not be over. Apparently after finishing second Bill Dunn's 97 car was found to have an illegal restricter plate during post race inspection. We'll have to see if this is confirmed with a penalty by the speedway this week. If so we should get credit for a third place finish. This also has major implications for the points championship with Bill Dunn behind Don Wood by only twelve points going in to the last event. Check back Tuesday or Wednesday for an update.

The 15-lap DARE Stock feature took the green with Duane Provost taking the early race lead ahead of Andrew Hayes, Victoria Bergenty, Donovin Secore, and Kyle Casagrande. Casagrande and Secore spun on lap-3 but managed to get going again and the race stayed under green flag conditions.

Provost held the lead until lap-6 when Bergenty made a move for the lead in turn 4. After a spin slowed the action, Bergenty continued to hold the lead after the restart. Don Wood was making a move from fourth to second and he was beginning to close in on Bergenty when the caution came back out with 12 laps complete.

On the restart, Bergenty got loose in the middle of turns 1+2 which allowed Wood to move to the inside and take over the race lead. Bill Dunn also was able to move by Bergenty and he gave Wood a run to the checkered flag, but it was Wood taking his second win of the 2009 season. Dunn finished second, with Bergenty, Hayes, and Cliff Saunders rounding out the top-5.

9/20/09 Worth the wait. After last weeks rain out and a hard hit the week before we were really hoping for a good night this week. Car was good in first warm-up so we decided to try putting on a newer set of tires with wheels we had straightened from a previous wreck. Andrew came in and informed Alex car had a serious shimmy in the front end. So it was back to the old set for the night. We'll see if we can figure out which wheel is bent and go from there. We stared on the outside front row for our heat and took our first win. Heat ran flag to flag with Tony Membrino, Jr. in the 00 car right on our bumper. Thanks again Tony for running us clean. For the feature we started on the pole again. Car was a little loose and after running side by side with Stephanie Berardi in the 92 for a couple laps Andrew knew he couldn't get by on the bottom and settled into second. Later in the race the 2 car driven by Jeff Jolly got by us putting the 6 to third. Top three ran nose to tail for the remaining laps. Winning the heat and our first podium feature finish made for a great night for the Hayes Racing Group Team.

The Berardi team has helped us come a long way in our rookie season. We are happy to say congratulations to Stephanie and the entire Berardi Racing 92 team on her first DARE Stock victory.

The 15-lap DARE Stock feature took the green with Stephanie Berardi taking the lead from the outside pole. Andrew Hayes settled into second with Duane Provost, Jeff Jolly, and Tony Membrino, Jr. making up the top-5. Berardi, Hayes, and Jolly ran in line until lap-9 when Jolly was able to move by Hayes for second.

The caution came out with 12 laps complete for a spin by Paul Jensen. Berardi continued to hold the lead back under green with Jolly right behind. Hayes was third, with Membrino and Todd LaPorta making up the top-5. Berardi was too strong to be overtaken and she wired the field to take her first career DARE Stock victory. Jolly finished second, with Hayes, Membrino, and LaPorta rounding out the top-5.
